President John Dramani Mahama has ordered an immediate ban on DSTV and other satellite television subscriptions at the Jubilee House, in a renewed effort to reduce non-essential government expenditure and enforce fiscal discipline.

Government officials say the directive is part of a broader initiative to instill modesty and responsible spending within public institutions.

In an interview with the media, the Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, confirmed the move, emphasizing that no office within the presidency is currently allowed to subscribe to any pay-TV service.

“This is a man who cut the cost of Independence Day celebration by 95% from over GHC20 million to GHC1.5 million. I can reveal to you that if you come to this House [Jubilee House], there is no office in this House that is allowed to subscribe to DSTV or any satellite television,” he stated.

He acknowledged that while the policy might appear insignificant at first glance, the potential cost savings are substantial when aggregated.

According to him, the directive is already being enforced at the presidency and will soon be extended to cover all government ministries and agencies.
