The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has successfully completed essential pipeline maintenance, allowing gas transportation services to resume across Ghana, Togo, and Benin.

This development is expected to stabilize power supply in these countries, which rely on the pipeline for energy.

The four-week maintenance project involved critical tasks such as offshore pipeline cleaning, inspection, and subsea valve replacements. During this period, pipeline laterals into Cotonou, Benin; Lomé, Togo; and Tema, Ghana were temporarily shut down.

Despite the complexities involved, WAPCo completed the work ahead of schedule while maintaining high safety and efficiency standards.

The Managing Director of WAPCo, Michelle Burkett, in a statement on Friday, February 28 acknowledged the dedication and professionalism of the team, emphasizing that their efforts ensured the project’s success.

While some countries experienced temporary disruptions due to the shutdown, the team worked tirelessly to carry out maintenance swiftly and safely.

WAPCo expressed gratitude to the governments of Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, and Togo for their support.

The company also acknowledged the contributions of maritime and regulatory authorities, customers, gas off-takers, host communities, shareholders, and other stakeholders who played a role in the project’s successful execution.

As a key infrastructure transporting natural gas from Nigeria to Ghana, Togo, and Benin, the pipeline remains vital in powering industries, households, and infrastructure across West Africa.

WAPCo assured that it remains committed to maintaining high-quality service and adhering to the highest safety standards to ensure uninterrupted gas supply, reinforcing its role in regional energy security.

The statement noted that with the successful completion of the maintenance project, gas transportation has resumed.

WAPCo reaffirmed its commitment to delivering safe and efficient energy solutions to the region.
