A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Legal Team, Gary Nimako has stated that the NPP is satisfied with the Supreme Court’s ruling and is prepared to appear at the Accra High Court on Tuesday, December 31, as directed.

Speaking to the media following the Supreme Court’s annulment of the re-collated results for Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Ablekuma North, and Techiman South constituencies, Mr. Nimako explained that the NDC had argued they were not given a fair hearing at the High Court. The Supreme Court acknowledged this as a fundamental right and ordered the case to return to the Accra High Court for review. He affirmed the NPP’s readiness to respond to the NDC’s application on Monday, December 30, regarding their objections to the re-collation.

“They came to court to say that they were not heard. The court said it’s a fundamental rule to be heard, so go back to the court and have your matter heard. So it’s simple, We are going back on Tuesday. They should file their response on why they think that there was collation or no collation the court will hear the matter”, he said.

Mr. Nimako also called on supporters of both the NPP and NDC to recognize that the two parties are not enemies and to uphold the rule of law. He condemned actions by certain NDC members who were reportedly seizing government properties unlawfully and urged all citizens to maintain peace following a successful election process.

“You realize that after this elections, there have been a lot of post election violence. We don’t understand, there is peace in the country. If you won elections, what about the destruction of state properties and all these things. I mean it’s not good. So, let’s all learn to abide by the rule of law that is the way I see it, that is all, so please all parties, political parties especially our brothers from the NDC should learn to respect the law, that is all”, he added.
