As today, the 13th of February, 2020,marks World Radio Day, the Media Foundation for West Africa has shared a predominant reason why radio is still relevant in our time.

Programme Manager for the Media, Good Governace and Democracy Programme under the Media Foundation for West Africa, Abigail Larbi in an interview on the Happy Morning Show aired on Happy 98.9FM stated that the World Radio Day is a day set aside by UNESCO to celebrate the role that radio is playing as far as public discourse and citizens access to information is concerned.

“I think that over the years there is no doubt that radio even continues to play that role because if you look at all the media platforms ,we have tv, print and now social media . You still realize that radio is the most pervasive platform. I mean today you can still be in the farm and have your little radio sit by you and you can hear what is going on in the country. And so that pervasive nature of radio still makes it one of the most important platform when it comes to issues of governance” .

She congratuled all who work hard in radio, urging them to continue the hard work.

She divulged that “this year’s theme is on promoting diversity specifically looking at how we are ensuring pluralism in radio and how we are encouraging representation in the news room”.
