The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is one of the many parties really overjoyed with promises made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Manifesto launch ahead of the December 7 polls.

The student’s union has lauded the NDC’s promise to cover fifty percent (50%) of tuition fees for the 2020/21 acadenic year for all tertiary institutions.

The President of NUGS, Isaac Jay Hyde speaking in an interview with Happy 98.9 FM’s Samuel Eshun, host of the Happy Morning Show said, “I found the reduction of fees for the 2020/21 academic year timely.”

The student leader expressed his suprise at the NDC capturing the afore mentioned saying, “We had already sent a letter to the presidency to reduce fees by fifty percent (50%) prior to the launch of the NDC manifesto and were waiting for a response from the presidency. .”

Isaac Jay Hyde commended the NDC for deciding to absorb a fraction of the fees for the 2020/21 academic year as they (students) were also feeling the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is a good thing captured by the NDC. We want to also enjoy reliefs just as the government gave to other institutions when the COVID-19 pandemic hit us hard,” he noted.

When asked if there was any consultation between NUGS and the NDC prior to their manifesto launch, Isaac responded in the negative.

He indicated that the NDC might have spoken to some NUGS executives but never formerly consulted the union before putting together their manifesto.

The NDC, launching their manifesto announced that they will absorb fifty percent (50%) of fees of tertiary students for the 2020/2021 academic year as an incentive to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 on students and parents.
