The High Court in Tamale has convicted six individuals in connection with a payroll fraud scheme within the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The fraudulent scheme involved illegally processing salary payments for a teacher who had vacated his post, leading to wrongful disbursement of over GHS 86,000.
The convictions were secured through plea bargaining facilitated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), ensuring guilty pleas and the full recovery of the stolen funds.
In total, GHS 106,319.64 has been reclaimed by the State.
The convicted individuals, including school administrators, payroll officers, and accountants, were found to have manipulated the validation process to reactivate salary payments for the non-existent employee.
This case highlights ongoing efforts to combat payroll fraud and reinforce financial accountability within the education sector.
