The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Ghana, Sergei Berdnikov, following the alleged unlawful publication of sexually explicit images of Ghanaian women by a supposed Russian national.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the Ministry confirmed that the summons was carried out on the instruction of the Minister for Foreign Affairs to formally register the Government of Ghana’s strong displeasure over the incident.
According to the statement, the alleged conduct involves the publication of intimate images of Ghanaian women without their consent, an act authorities describe as a clear violation of Ghanaian law and an affront to the privacy and dignity of the victims.
Government also raised concerns about the broader cybercrime implications of the matter.
During the meeting, Ambassador Berdnikov acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations, particularly the violation of privacy rights and the cybercrime dimensions involved.
He expressed the willingness of the Russian Federation to cooperate with Ghana in pursuing justice.
However, the Ambassador indicated that he was unable to confirm the Russian nationality of the individual at the centre of the viral videos.
He further disclosed that the name circulating in sections of the media is not recognised as a known Russian name, describing it instead as an inappropriate or vulgar expression in the Russian language.
The Ambassador also revealed that similar alleged activities linked to the individual had come to the attention of Russian authorities in other countries and were currently being investigated by Russian experts.
Despite the absence of a legally binding extradition treaty between Ghana and Russia, Ambassador Berdnikov pledged that the Russian Embassy in Accra is prepared to share relevant information to support Ghana’s ongoing efforts to apprehend the suspect and ensure justice is served, within the framework of longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured the public of its commitment to leveraging the cordial ties between Ghana and Russia and to exploring all available international legal tools and remedies to secure justice in the matter.
