Needless! – Jerome Otchere dismisses the newly formed 5-five committee in the search for new Black Stars coach

Seasoned sports journalist Jerome Otchere has dismissed the newly formed 5-five committee, labeling it as unnecessary in the search for the new Black Stars coach.

In an interview on Happy Sports with Ohene Bampoe Brenya, Otchere questioned the need for such a committee, expressing skepticism about its effectiveness in the coach selection process.

He emphasized the importance of a more direct and streamlined approach, suggesting that the existing structures within the Ghana Football Association should suffice in identifying the right candidate.

While acknowledging the departure of Chris Hughton and the need for a fresh start, Otchere voiced concern about potential delays and complications arising from the committee’s involvement.

He urged the GFA to prioritize efficiency and transparency to ensure a swift appointment that aligns with the aspirations of Ghanaian football.

The five-member search committee, unveiled by the Ghana Football Association, comprises individuals with diverse expertise and backgrounds to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of potential candidates. The committee members are as follows: Mark Addo (Chairperson), Ace Ankomah (Esq.) – Vice Chairman, Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, Opoku Nti and William Caesar Kartey.

The Executive Council will ultimately consider their recommendations within the next three weeks.

This is in the wake of Chris Hughton’s departure as the head coach of the Black Stars after Ghana exited the group stages of the ongoing 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
