The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has instructed its agents nationwide to ignore the Electoral Commission’s (EC) directive, which aims to exclude party agents from the ongoing vote transfer process, and instead, continue to participate in the exercise.

Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the NDC, vehemently condemned the EC’s directive as “disgusting” and “outrageous”, accusing the Commission of facilitating gerrymandering through illegal voter transfers, which he believes is a deliberate attempt to manipulate the electoral process.

In a statement released on June 3, the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, alleged that the Electoral Commission (EC) is colluding with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to undermine the transparency of the vote transfer process, and therefore, the EC’s directive should be disregarded as it lacks credibility and integrity.

On Sunday, June 2, the Electoral Commission (EC) issued a memo to its district officers, citing violent clashes at some vote transfer centers, and subsequently directed that political party agents be barred from accessing the facilities, in an effort to maintain order and prevent further disruptions.

“The National Democratic Congress therefore hereby calls on all its agents across the country to defy and disregard this outrageous directive by the Electoral Commission.”

“All structures of the party, particularly Regional and Constituency Secretariats, are hereby directed to deploy NDC agents to all district offices of the EC to closely monitor the ongoing voter transfer exercise,” part of the statement said.
